Suspect stole a marked TPD patrol vehicle

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV)- Tucson Police Officers have one person in custody after a marked Tucson Police Department patrol car was stolen, shots were fired and TPD officers were led on a high speed chase.
The incident occurred Sunday morning at approximately 11:00 a.m. The police officer struggled with the suspect and fired shots after being dragged by the police cruiser as it was driven away by the suspect.
A vehicle pursuit ensued and the suspect fled westbound on I-10 and/or the Frontage Road near Casa Grande, according to reports from authorities.
DPS issued a statement confirming numerous officers are assisting the Tucson Police Department with a situation involving the theft of a TPD patrol vehicle.
Tucson Police Sgt. Matt Ronstadt issued a press release stating that while assisting with the capture of a suspect in an unrelated stolen vehicle incident in the Swan and Golf Links area, an unidentified suspect stole a marked TPD patrol car and dragged an officer and/or struck the officer with the stolen TPD vehicle in the process of the theft. Shots were fired at the suspect by the TPD officer. After leading officers on a high speed chase, the suspect was apprehended and taken into custody on I-10 near milepost 182, in the Casa Grande area at midday Sunday.
No information is available as to whether any injuries were sustained by either the officer or the suspect.
