Phoenix woman sentenced in fatal DPS crash

PHOENIX (AP) - A Phoenix woman has been sentenced to natural life in prison for first-degree murder in a 2009 freeway chase that killed an Arizona Department of Public Safety officer.
Maricopa County prosecutors say Georgia Lynn Baker also was sentenced Thursday to six years in prison for unlawful flight from a law enforcement vehicle and 11.25 years in prison for theft of
means of transportation.
The 45-year-old Baker was convicted in the case last month.
Prosecutors say Baker was driving a stolen SUV that DPS was attempting to stop on Dec. 17, 2009, when a DPS cruiser hit Officer Chris Marano. The 28-year-old Marano later died from his injuries.
Two drug-recognition experts examined Baker and determined shewas impaired by drugs at the time of the high-speed chase on Loop 101.
