Mexico: Gulf Cartel's accountant found shot dead

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico's navy says the top accountant for the Gulf drug cartel has been found shot to death in a house in the northern border state of Tamaulipas.
It says marines discovered the body of Cesar Davila Garcia along with a pistol Tuesday after a tip.
The navy says Davila was the accountant for cartel figure Antonio Ezequiel Cardenas Guillen, who was killed by federal forces last November. It says Davila then became a regional leader of the cartel and was later named its primary accountant.
The navy's announcement Wednesday comes amid a weeklong crackdown on the Gulf cartel in the area, including the arrest of at least 36 of its members. The cartel is also battling the Zetas cartel over the regional drug trade.
