TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The Tucson Police Department is investigating a traffic collision involving a pedestrian that has left a 16-year-old girl in critical condition.

Maria Hawke, a spokesperson with TPD tells KGUN9 an officer was traveling southbound on North Oracle Road when she saw numerous citizens stopped in the roadway as a result of a traffic collision.

The officer learned a pedestrian had been struck at the intersection of North Oracle Road and West Kelso. She also learned the vehicle involved in the collision had not stopped at the scene.  The suspect instead continued driving Southbound on North Oracle Road.

An adult male on a motorcycle followed the suspect vehicle as it fled from the scene.  A short distance later, the driver of the suspect vehicle drove up onto the sidewalk area and ended up colliding with two vehicles parked in a parking lot at the intersection of North Oracle Road and West Alturas.  The driver of the suspect vehicle then attempted to flee, this time on foot.

The motorcyclist continued to pursue the suspect, ultimately catching him and ordering him to get on the ground. The suspect remained on the ground until officers arrived to formally detain him.

The male suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the two collisions. His injuries were non-life threatening.

Police have collected evidence and interviewed several witnesses from the scene. Their investigation reveals that the female victim was walking westbound in a marked crosswalk on West Kelso. The male suspect was driving southbound on North Oracle Road and failed to yield to the pedestrian, striking her while she was in the crosswalk.

Tucson Fire transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries. She is currently listed in critical condition.

At this time, no charges have been filed against the male.  However, the investigation into the collision continues.
