PINAL COUNTY (KGUN9-TV) - Avra Valley Fire District officials and the Silverbell Army Heliport Fire Department authorities responded to a report of a semi-tractor trailer in flames, at I-10 mile post 231 eastbound, Saturday.

Authorities report upon arrival at the scene of the Avra Valley Fire, officials found a semi-tractor trailer on fire. The driver of the trailer was able to detach his truck from the trailer however; the truck bed was fully engulfed in fire.

Units on the scene were able to extinguish the fire within 15 minutes.

The semi was carrying a load of fresh fruit alongside eastbound I-10 when the driver noticed smoke coming from the trailer itself, according to authorities. The driver was accompanied by his wife, who was his other driver, as team/pair drivers.  The two drivers, a husband and a wife in their early 40’s, were also traveling with the wife’s 20-month-old granddaughter, according to authorities.

Authorities say initially the two drivers complained of some smoke inhalation; paramedics on scene provided basic care to the otherwise unharmed couple.

Both adults were clear of any injuries and declined going to the hospital at this time.  The granddaughter suffered no injuries.
