TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) – Mesa Verde Elementary School has named their new playground after their former student Christina-Taylor Green, the youngest victim of the January 8th shootings.
Green’s former classmates helped design the playground. They selected the colors, picked the equipment and chose to add Green’s last drawing of a butterfly to the playground.
“I sat at her table in art and her artwork is so beautiful. I always complemented her on it and it’s just beautiful,” said Green’s friend Shea Garrett.
Green’s family released butterflies at the dedication ceremony. They say, while every day is difficult, today was one of the happiest days they’ve had in a long time.
“When we cut the ribbon the kids just took off and ran in there, they were so excited that's how we want people to remember Christina. How you can give back to you community, how you can help others,” said John Green standing in his daughter’s playground.
