Former party chairman entering Arizona Senate race

WASHINGTON (AP) - A former chairman of the Arizona Democratic Party will announce Monday that he's running for the seat now held by retiring Sen. Jon Kyl.
Don Bivens has been talking with state and national Democratic officials about entering the race. A source close to the Phoenix lawyer says Bivens has decided to run. The source spoke on condition of anonymity for lack of authority to speak publicly about it.
Democrats in Washington have said they believe that Arizona is a potential pick-up opportunity. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who is recovering from a gunshot wound to the head, has not yet decided whether she will seek the Senate seat but Democrats doubt that she would run.
However, the leading Republican candidate, Rep. Jeff Flake, has a large fundraising advantage and more name recognition.
