TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The Gabrielle Giffords Family Assistance Center will be dedicated Friday, Sept. 23rd at 3:00 p.m. at the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona located at 330 S. Country Club Road.
Bill Carnegie the President and CEO will run the dedication and be joined by local dignitaries.
Ron Barber, District Director, will also attend representing Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords office.
The opening of the Gabrielle Giffords Family Assistance Center will help Food Bank clients who have had trouble in the past locating where to sign up for SNAP (food stamps), getting help from family advocates, and other services since the Food Bank building is 140,000 square feet.
The Gabrielle Giffords Family Assistance Center will help people sign up for SNAP, get information on how to receive legal advice, assistance on tax returns and many other services.
The Family Assistance Center was funded from a special fund that Giffords' husband, Mark Kelly, suggested publically, after the tragedy that occurred from the Jan. 8th shootings.
Kelly stated that those who wanted to honor Gabby make a gift to the Community Food Bank or the Red Cross, which are two of her favorite charities.
The Food Bank received over $193,000 gifts that have come from 48 states and several foreign countries to build the Gabrielle Giffords Family Assistance Center.
The Family Assistance Center will be located in the Food Plus area of the Food Bank.
