One dead, two injured in I-10 collision

BENSON, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - One person is dead and two others are injured after a collision near Benson on Sunday.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, on Sept. 18, officers responded to a two vehicle collision on Interstate 10, milepost 288.

A Nissan passenger vehicle was traveling eastbound on I-10 when the driver of the vehicle lost control because of a right rear tire failure.  The Nissan ran into a 1993 Freightliner Tractor Trailer commercial vehicle and spun off the road and rolled over.

Francisca Villa, 71, from Tucson was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was not wearing safety restraints at the time of the collision.


The driver of the Nissan who was injured has been identified as Armando Galaz, 54, from Tucson.  A passenger of the Nissan who was injured has been identifies as Rosa Galaz, 54, from Tucson.  The driver of the freightliner who was uninjured was Elvis Orellana, 40, from Lawndale, Calif.  They were all wearing safety restraints at the time of the collision.
