TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) – Authorities say after responding to nearly a dozen emergency calls related to Saturday’s storms, Northwest Fire crews were called to the USF Reddaway Truck terminal in the 2300 Block of West Wetmore Road around 9:10 p.m. for a reported building fire.

The facility is a shipping transfer station for the company and the building contains freight in transit from manufactures to stores throughout the southwest.

Fire crews arrived 3 minutes after the call came into the 911 dispatch center to find a commercial sized roll-off dumpster engulfed in flames.  The dumpster sat between 2 semi-trailers and up against a loading dock door.

Authorities say an exterior fire sprinkler system along the roof of the building was key in keeping most of the flames from reaching into the building.

Crews had the bulk of the fire under control in 9 minutes after they arrived, according to reports. There were considerable amounts of smoke that found its way into the building and firefighters used powerful ventilation fans to clear the building and minimize damage from the smoke.

Fire cause investigators were on the scene attempting to determine the cause of the fire. There is no information available on the cause of the fire at this time.

No injuries were reported and damage estimates are still being calculated.
