NEW YORK (AP)- Drivers hitting the road this Labor Day weekend will pay more at the pump.  Gasoline is near the highest it's ever been for this time of year.

The national average on Thursday is $3.62 per gallon.  That is the highest  Sept. 1 price since 2008, when pump prices averaged $3.68.

Tucson drivers have it a little easier.  Price-tracking website tucsongasprices.com lists the city's average at $3.39 for a gallon of unleaded.

Industry experts blame a variety of factors for the price increase, including a rash of refining problems throughout the U.S.  and higher demand for gasoline in developing nations.
