Pearce backer appeals decision on recall election

PHOENIX (AP) - A supporter of Arizona Senate President Russell Pearce told the state Supreme Court that he's appealing a ruling that lets a Nov. 8 recall election against Pearce be held as planned.
The Associated Press reports that a notice of appeal on behalf of Pearce supporter Franklin Bruce Ross was filed Sunday night.
The appeal comes from a decision on Friday by Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Hugh Hegyi to throw out Ross' lawsuit that alleged flaws in the recall drive and sought to have the election called off.
Pearce supporters say recall organizers should be held to a "strict compliance" standard.
Hegyi ruled that strict compliance isn't the law in Arizona, except in special circumstances that aren't present in the Pearce recall challenge.
