NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say a teenager has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle more than two pounds of heroin across the Arizona border into Mexico.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Morley Pedestrian Gate in Nogales arrested the unidentified 16-year-old boy Tuesday.
Officers were screening people crossing on foot through the gate and stopped the boy, who's a U.S. citizen living in Nogales, Sonora.
He was questioned and searched and officers say a package of heroin was found inside each of his shoes.
They say the narcotic had an estimated value of $27,500.
The teen was arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials for further investigation.
