Phoenix born soldier killed in Afghanistan

PHOENIX (AP) — A soldier from Phoenix has been killed in combat in Afghanistan.
Pfc. John C. Johnson was killed Friday in Kandahar province after insurgents attacked his unit with small arms fire. The 28-year-old was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, N.Y.
Johnson joined the U.S. Army in February 2010 and was assigned to Fort Drum in July 2010. His unit deployed in March.
A news release from Fort Drum says Johnson is survived by his wife, two children, mother and father.
