Brewer recall effort fails to gather enough support

PHOENIX (AP/KGUN9) — A committee seeking to force a recall election for Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has filed signature petitions, but the effort produced a fraction of the number needed.
Secretary of State spokesman Matt Roberts told the Associated Press that the Committee to Recall Arizona Governor Jan Brewer late Friday filed what it said are petitions bearing 37,500 signatures.
In order to force an election on whether to recall the governor, the group needed 432,021 voter signatures, they obtained approximately 8% of the number of signatures required.
Roberts says the Secretary of State's Office will review the petition to verify the number of signatures.
This Saturday was the deadline to file petitions for the campaign launched on Jan. 28.
