A Phoenix grand jury charged a Peoria woman with causing a fatal fentanyl overdose on Wednesday.

The 45-year-old woman, Fanny Madrigal-Lopez, is currently being detained until her scheduled hearing next Thursday.

According to a media release from the United States Attorney's Office, this is "a crime that, under federal law, carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years in prison and a maximum sentence of life in prison."

It is alleged that Madrigal-Lopez gave fentanyl to a man who later died of an overdose on November 16, 2016.

It is also alleged that she distributed the drugs from her home, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
