When teenagers move out and live on their own for the firs time as college students, they tend to pack on some pounds.

KGUN9's Alexa Liacko reports that students tend to gain from three to 10 pounds in their first two years of college. Much of the weight gain occurs in the first semester.

Campus health officials recommend cooking and preparing less processed foods to fend off temptations that cause weight gain.

Reducing candy and soda, as well as late-night snacking and watching portion sizes, are other strategies to keep the pounds off.
