Raytheon, Tucson's biggest private employer, is going to receive incentives to expand in Tucson.

The agreement to annex Raytheon into Tucson city limits, but grant the company certain tax incentives, requires the company to expand its current location and hire nearly 2,000 new employees before 2021.

The Tucson City Council has voted to approve a pre-annexation agreement 6-0. Council Member Paul Cunningham was absent for the vote.

A few years ago Raytheon cited lack of room to expand in Tucson as part of the reason it placed a new missile factory in Huntsville, Alabama instead of here.

The Raytheon item passed 6-0. Council Member Paul Cunningham was absent for the vote.
