TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Tucson mayor, Jonathan Rothschild, joined TUSD staff and community volunteers this morning in an effort to re-enroll students who have recently dropped out.
The 'Steps to Success' walk is a twice a year event, in which school officials knock on the doors of students who have recently dropped out of TUSD schools.
Dropout prevention specialist Kristopher Neal say that even though he does this every day, special events like steps to success help show students they matter.
"We did get one that was excited to see us in coming back to school although they were all excited. They were all appreciative of us coming to their door and they were really happy that we were showing that we actually care and coming out to get these students."
According to Mayor Rothschild's website, 'Steps to Success' has brought nearly 400 kids back into the school system of which 64 of those have graduated.
