Arizona Teacher Walkout: How school districts are preparing

A teacher walkout in Arizona is scheduled for Thursday and school districts are preparing. 

TUCSON UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

TUSD schools will be closed both Thursday and Friday due to walk-outs. On Tuesday, TUSD announced the district would close all its schools Thursday. In a letter to parents on Wednesday, the district said classes would be canceled on Friday. 

MARANA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

All MUSD schools are closed Thursday and Friday.

SAHUARITA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

Late Monday, Sahuarita Unified School District decided to close all its schools Thursday and Friday. A letter sent out to parents states the district will provide an update to parents Saturday about next week. 

CATALINA FOOTHILLS SCHOOL DISTRICT

Early Tuesday morning, CFSD decided to close all its schools beginning Thursday, and they will continue to be closed until the walkout ends. A district spokesperson says they anticipate adding instructional days at the end of the year, so they meed the state's legal requirement of 180 days. 

SUNNYSIDE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

Tuesday morning the district decided to close all its schools Thursday and Friday. School cafeterias will be opened for breakfast and lunch. For more information, click here. 

FLOWING WELLS UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

FWUSD states in a letter to parents the district will be closed Thursday and Friday. "At this time, we do not know how long schools will be closed," the district said.

AMPHITHEATER  PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Amphi will close all schools Thursday and Friday.

Also, food services will be open during a walkout to provide breakfast and lunch.  

BENSON UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

The Benson USD administration has voted to close all school Thursday and Friday. In a letter to parents, the district says graduation and other K-8 promotion events will not be effected. If the closure lasts for two days, the school year will not have to be extended. No childcare services will be available.

DOUGLAS UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

The Douglas USD will be closed Thursday and Friday. According to the letter sent out to parents, the district will decide on Monday if schools will re-open Tuesday, May 1. Monday, April 30th is already a scheduled break from classes. No childcare services will be provided due to the closure.

SANTA CRUZ VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

The school district released a statement Tuesday afternoon saying that all schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday (with the exception of food service, athletics, and high school field trips).

NOGALES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

The Nogales Unified School District sent a letter to parents announcing all schools will be closed on Thursday, April 26 and Friday, April 27 because there will not be sufficient staff to provide instruction to students because of the walkouts.

Free students meals will be available for children eighteen years of age and younger on both Thursday and Friday at all six NUSD elementary school and Nogales High School from 10:30 a.m. to Noon.

SIERRA VISTA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

SVUSD released in a statement Tuesday morning all schools in the district will be closed starting Thursday and remain closed until the statewide walkout ends. Roadrunner Preschool will be open with normal operating hours during the closure, according to a district statement. 

TANQUE VERDE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

TVUSD released a statement Thursday evening on their Facebook page saying that all schools will be closed this Thursday and Friday.

VAIL SCHOOL DISTRICT

All schools will be closed Thursday and Friday.

If a school is closed, a parent doesn't need to report their child's absence. However, if the school is open, a parent needs to call the attendance office if their child will not attend. 

According to most districts, graduation or Prom dates will not be affected. 

Walk-ins are scheduled to continue tomorrow and Wednesday. 

MAMMOTH UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

MSMUSD released a statement stating that all three Mammoth-San Manuel school will be closed Thursday, April 26. The district says all schools will reopen tomorrow.

BABOQUIVARI UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

The district released a statement Thursday stating that all Baboquivari schools will be closed Thursday, April 26. Classes are scheduled to resume on Friday.
