Construction on Silverbell Road for the new road that will connect Silverbell and I-10 may cause some delays for drivers beginning Monday July 25, 2016.

Work will go from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. until this Friday. Crews will be trenching across Silverbell road to make room for the utilities for the brand new Sunset road connecting Silverbell to I-10.

The $22 million project will build a bridge over the Santa Cruz River, and eventually the road will connect all the way to River Road across the freeway.

The new three lane road will include pedestrian and bicycle lanes. It is expected to help relieve traffic issues and give drivers more options to get around the growing northwest side, especially once construction delays get more severe at the nearby I-10 interchanges.

Pima County says drivers should expect some minor delays during the trenching happening all this week. The entire project is expected to take until the end of next summer.

Crews will be here directing traffic during the trenching, but if you want to get around this, get on I-10 and get off at Ina to the north or Camino del Cerro to the south.
