Police identify pedestrian involved in fatal collision

Police have identified a pedestrian who died days after being involved in a collision.

According to the Tucson Police Department, the man was found lying in the roadway on June 20 at W. Grant, and N. Oracle Road was 82-year-old Ruben Ramirez.

He was transported to the hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries. While at the hospital, police learned that Ramirez had struck his head on the roadway, making his injuries life-threatening. Ramirez died on June 26.

Investigators learned that the driver of a pickup truck was traveling westbound on Grant Rd had stopped at a red light at N. Oracle Rd. The driver was making a northbound turn from Grant onto Oracle and was looking south waiting for traffic to clear.

Ramirez was in the crosswalk when he was struck by the driver. The driver immediately stopped and called 9-1-1.

Officers say that neither speed or alcohol was a factor in the collision.
