Plans to build a pickleball complex are moving forward in Green Valley. The sport is huge there, with a club that has more than 600 members.

The Green Valley Recreation Department says land has been purchased for the complex, and the board is looking over the design.

The new facility will expand the existing six courts to 24 courts. A walking path will also be added around the perimeter.

Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S., according to recent reports.

The sport also has Arizona ties. Last year the national pickleball championship was in Casa Grande and the league's headquarters are in the Phoenix-area.

The USA Pickleball Association and the Amateur Athletic Union are teaming up to get a more diverse demographic. Many of Green Valley Recreation's players are part of this league.
