A local Tucson company aims to build the fastest wheeled turbine powered car.
Arizona Turbine Technology of Tucson partnered up with Team Vesco to set a new world record.
Team Vesco began racing in the 1930's and have been setting world records. Their next record is to have the first wheeled turbine powered car go 500 miles per hour.
AZTTECH's chief engineer Elden Crom explained that before the racing team came to them, Team Vesco had some problems getting their car faster.
"They couldn't go back and analyze and figure out what they needed to fix, what needed to be improved," said Crom. "That is what we are looking for and insure that we have all the data recorded so we can figure out what are those little things that make it just a wee bit faster."
Crom said that the car now runs almost completely manual.
"We have now automated a lot of those processes, especially the fuel control," he said.
The team is gearing up the helicopter engine in the car to compete against multiple hopefuls trying to achieve the same goal.
The race will be held at Bonneville's 68th annual speed week August 13-19th.
