Veteran inmates at the Wilmot State Prison assembled care packages for troops Wednesday morning.

The inmates say the boxes are filled with love, thank you cards, treats and hygiene products for those who continue to serve our country.

Phillip Bryan, who served four years as a United States Marine says it's a blessing to be part of a community that cares about the troops.

"To me it's great to see. That we can still come together 10 years, 20 years down the road. We're all still here pulling together making the best of bad situations," says Bryan.

Bryan and the other veterans know first hand what it is to serve this country. He tells KGUN 9 that troops are not forgotten. Which is why all the boxes being stuffed are so important. "We appreciate everything they have done for us," says Bryan.

The veteran inmates are part of the program "Regaining honor,"  which allows them to give back to a brotherhood that they say is forever.

"Part of the program here in the prison is to bring them together here and let them know we're still a band of brothers and we will rise and make it above this."

Marla Robold, President of Tucson Area Marine Moms says the boxes are everything to some troops because often times they never receive anything while deployed.

"It's just really important for these guys to get boxes. We get letters sometimes and they tell us how they feel and how they feel forgotten. They just really appreciate these boxes," adds Robold.

The troops will receive the packages in time for Thanksgiving.
