TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) -- Leaders from across Arizona and Mexico were in Tucson Tuesday for the inauguration ceremony at the Mexican consulate.

Governor Doug Ducey met the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico Claudia Ruiz Massieu to discuss strengthening the relationship between the U.S. And Mexico.

The new consulate building was built in March and is located at Broadway and Alvernon. Secretary Massieu says the old office was way too small, and the new one has more modern features including a national call center. Mexican citizens can call the hotline from all over the world, Massieu says, to get information about specific services.

"People call to know where there families are, where there loved ones are," Massieu said. "So this is a model consulate. It's also a showcase of the way our community has evolved and changed over the years since the 1930's."

The hotline is 1 (855) INFO - 395.

The Tucson consulate office is the fifth busiest in the country taking in 21,500 cases last year.

The Governor of Sonora Claudia Pavlovich was at the ceremony, including local leaders like Mayor Jonathan Rothschild, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos and Tucson Police Chief Chris Magnus.
