VAIL, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Eight student-athletes from Cienega High School's Division II State Championship Softball Team have served a suspension for hazing.

The Vail School District says the hazing incident happened in February during a team road trip.

Nemer Hassey, principal of Cienega High School says students placed a bucket with urine and ice on a door with the intention of it spilling on other players.

Hassey says it did not actually spill on any of the players.

Cienega conducted an investigation when they learned about this a few weeks ago and then made the suspension.

Four of the student-athletes involved were suspended for participating and four others for knowing, but not stopping the incident.

The district says all the students involved with the hazing have served their suspension and are back on the field.
