Crews from the Tucson Fire Department extinguished a fire at the historic Corbett building on Saturday morning.
Firefighters contained the fire after about three hours. No injuries were reported from the fire.
Crews were dispatched to the two-alarm building fire just before 6 a.m. in the 400 block of North 6th Avenue. The first arriving crews found fire showing from the roof of the building.
Due to the age of the building and several remodels, there were multiple void spaces which made the fire difficult to access and extinguish, Baker said.
Because of these conditions, crews fought the fire from the outside. Firefighters poured thousands of gallons of water into the building using elevated master streams.
Baker said crews remained on scene after the majority of flames were extinguished to put out hot spots in the attic space.
A total of 40 firefighters and 14 units responded to the fire.
The origin and cause of the fire are still under investigation at this time. There is not yet a dollar estimate on damages to the building.
