City officials have reached a deal with Shift Transit to provide a public bike share system that will launch in the fall.

The system will let subscribers check out bikes from kiosks placed around the city.

PBSC Urban Solutions will provide the equipment and technology. The company has deployed more than 50,000 bikes in cities including Detroit, Chicago and Toronto.

"We are eager to work with Shift Transit to bring bike share to Tucson this year. Their experience in working with several other cities to launch bike share will be a big benefit to our system," Tucson Department of Transportation Director Daryl W. Cole said in a statement.
