A former U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer must pay a $10,000 fine and nearly $2,400 of restitution after admitting he stole 13 government credit cards and used them to fuel his personal vehicles while working in Nogales.

Juan Fernando Barajas pleaded guilty in March to one count of misdemeanor theft of government property and he was sentenced Monday by a federal judge in Tucson.

According to court documents, video showed Barajas using government credit cards to refuel vehicles that included a black Mercedes Benz SUV and a red extended-cab pickup.

Barajas worked for CBP from 2003 to 2017, when he resigned about two months before being arrested.
