TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Coronado National Memorial continues to open areas of the park as they are assessed and determined safe.
Coronado Officials say Montezuma Pass Rd (FR 61) will be open through the park. The Cave Trail, Coronado Peak Trail, and the picnic area will also be open and accessible to visitors.
The road and trails will be subject to temporary closures depending on conditions.
“Debris flows from recent rains have already crossed Montezuma Pass Rd.,” said Interim Superintendent William Shott. “Park staff continues to remove debris, but rain and wind could still have an effect on whether a particular area is open.”
Joe’s Canyon Trail, Yaqui Ridge Trail, and the Crest Trail remain closed due to fire and flood damage.
Coronado National Memorial closed shortly after the Monument Fire was sparked on June 12.
The Monument Fire has burned through the memorial, consuming 29,000 acres of vegetation and destroying homes, businesses, and outbuildings.
