The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) set their sights on the Tucson Child and Family Resource lobster dinner benefit.

In a press release issued by PETA they state that the organization holding the benefit has agreed to use a "stun" device to effectively make the live lobsters brain-dead prior to cooking.

The device developed by a British man named Simon Buckhaven knocks the lobster unconscious within half a second by running an electrical current through it's brain, the current continues for several seconds destroying the nervous system of the lobster.

Critics to the traditional process of cooking lobsters state that a lobster boiled alive struggles in agony for between two to three minutes before dying.

"This will be the first time this promising device will be used at such a large public event," says PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk.

According to PETA spokeswoman Lindsay Rajt, the devices are being provided by PETA at no cost to the organization.

In an update Friday afternoon the 'Crustastun' device was being held by U.S. Customs, the device is expected to be at the event tommorow afternoon.
