The Elk Horn wildfire is burning 50 miles southwest of Tucson, near the Baboquivari Peak Wilderness Area. Currently the fire is approximately 2,400 acres with 5% containment and is expected to continue burning for the next several days.
Several agencies are fighting the fire. They say, firefighter safety is the primary concern. The area is known for its very steep, rugged terrain and can be dangerous.
Fire officials anticipate the size of the fire to increase. The Elk Horn fire is believed to be human-caused, and is under investigation.
