Eight staffers at Tucson hospital suspended

Posted:

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Eight staff members at University Medical Center in Tucson have been suspended for taking "potentially inappropriate" photos of a patient with a camera phone.

Hospital officials declined to discuss the content of the photos, but say four nurses and four patient-care technicians could lose their jobs depending on the outcome of an investigation following the Friday report.

Hospital officials are trying to determine whether the staff members violated patient privacy and hospital policy, which prohibits taking photos of patients without the patient's written consent. Hospital policy also prohibits the use of personal camera phones by staff inside the hospital.

The hospital has notified the patient's family and Tucson police of the investigation.
