Lawmaker: Budget hearing to air transplant cuts
Web Producer: Laura Rios
PHOENIX (AP) - State House Appropriations Chairman John Kavanagh says a promised review of a controversial cut of medical transplant funding will be part of a budget hearing for the state's Medicaid program.
The state scaled back eligibility for transplant coverage on Oct. 1 as part of spending cuts implemented under the budget approved by the Legislature and signed by Gov. Jan Brewer last spring.
The cut has proved to be controversial, and Kavanagh has said his committee would review it early in the 2011 legislative session.
The Scottsdale Republican said he's still waiting for data from transplant supporters on patient recovery rates but that he plans to include the subject in a committee hearing on funding for the
Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System.
