Volunteers cleanup trash left by illegal immigrants & smugglers

ELOY Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Volunteers as part of a multi-agency cooperation removed over one ton of trash from the Ironwood Forest National Monument.
The monument is managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and is located Northwest of Tucson, an area used frequently by illegal immigrants, their guides, and drug smugglers.
Volunteers came from several groups; the Dove Mountain Hiking Club, the Clean Forest Project, the Silverbell Estates neighborhood, and the Friends of the Ironwood, among others. Inmates from the Pinal County Jail also assisted in the cleanup.
Law Enforcement from the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Eloy Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol & ICE, and the Pinal County Sheriff's Office searched the area to ensure volunteers were safe. Members of the Gang and Immigration Intelligence Team Enforcement Mission, a multi agency law enforcement team, provided on-site security.
In the end, 69 bags of trash weighing close to 2,000 pounds were removed from the site.
