TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Police have identified the man whose body was found in the trunk of a burned car Thursday afternoon.
Sgt. Chris Widmer with Tucson Police told KGUN9 that officers found the body of 23-year-old Louie Sagala in the trunk of a silver two-door passenger car near Kolb and Irvington.
"Very rarely do we find a dead body," said Widmer. "It amplifies the investigation. Because it's burned it'll take us a little longer to piece it all together."
Investigators remained on scene for several hours. Tucson Police are treating this case as a homicide.
Officers told KGUN9 that when they arrived, a group of people watching the smoke scattered. Many neighbors reported hearing an explosion and then seeing the smoke. Steve Miller called 911 and snapped photos of the fire.
"That car couldn't have started up too long before us getting there," said Miller. "Knowing that the person was still there is nervewracking."
The car was in a desert area near the neighborhood at Dogwood Avenue and Poinciana Drive. Neighbors are sharing their take on a disturbing crime that happened right in their own backyard.
"I even got chills just to hear about this," said Connie Flores. "We had never head anything like that."
"I'm definitely more scared," said Crystal Perez. "It's like right there."
