Barber and Copland: American Souvenirs George Hanson, conductor Lauren Roth, violin Barber: Souvenirs Menotti: Concerto for Violin and Orchestra TSO PREMIERE Kernis: Musica Celestis Copland: Appalachian Spring In her second season as TSO Concertmaster, Lauren Roth makes her solo debut performing the concerto Gian Carlo Menotti composed in 1952, one of three mid-twentieth century works on the program. Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring won a Pulitzer Prize in 1945 while Samuel Barber’s Souvenirs is a playful, waltz-like ballet suite with memorable melodies. The program also features Musica Celestis, one of the key orchestral works by another Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, Aaron Jay Kernis.
