Southern Arizona Kidney Walk
WHO: National Kidney Foundation of Arizona’s Southern Arizona Kidney Walk Presented by Sam’s Club WHAT: The National Kidney Foundation of Arizona will hold its inaugural Southern Arizona Kidney Walk on November 6. The kidney walk is a non-competitive 5k walk focusing on education and prevention of kidney disease. The event will also feature a free Kidney Health Risk Assessment for Walk participants, their families, friends and the general public interested in learning more. The Southern Arizona Kidney Walk is on the heels of the first ever Northern Arizona Kidney Walk being held October 22, 2011 in Flagstaff. Kidney Health Risk Assessment The Kidney Walk will feature a complimentary Kidney Health Risk Assessment (KHRA). KHRA is a public education service that measures an individual's risk for developing chronic kidney disease. After testing for high blood pressure, family history and body mass, at-risk participants then meet with an on-site doctor or advanced practitioner to discuss their health risks and receive educational information. WHEN: Sunday, November 17 Registration: 7:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. Walk Begins: 9:00 a.m. WHERE: Kino Sports Complex - Kino Stadium 2500 East Ajo Way Tucson, AZ 85713 WHY: Kidney disease is a major health problem in Arizona, the U.S. and around the world. One in 9, or 26 million American adults are estimated to be living with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). And, 90% of them are not aware they have CKD, as early stage kidney disease is typically without symptoms. In Arizona, it is likely that the life of someone you know is or will be impacted: more than 600,000 family, friends and neighbors have some stage of CKD. The goal of the Southern Arizona Kidney Walk is to raise awareness in the general public about kidney health, disease prevention and the interconnectedness of other chronic conditions. The event presents an occasion for dialysis patients, organ recipients and donors, the business communities and our Arizona community to celebrate life and create lasting advocacy for our patients.
