LAVA Music presents Tracy Newman and the Reinforcements in Concert
LAVA Music presents Tracy Newman and the Reinforcements in the beautiful Abounding Grace Sanctuary. Tracy Newman was a TV writer/producer (Cheers, The Nanny, Ellen, Drew Carey, According to Jim), and now she's a full-time singer/songwriter. Tracy grew up in Los Angeles where she started playing guitar as a young teen. After high school, she wanted to be a folksinger, but her parents insisted that she go to college. She went to the U of A here in Tucson and quickly got in with the folk community. Soon she stopped attending college and was playing on the street corners for money. Understandably, this freaked out her mother who flew to Tucson and dragged her back to LA for "help". The therapist, an elderly man in a suit and tie, kept nodding off during Tracy's sessions. She guesses that he just couldn't relate to an upper middle class teenage girl who just wanted to be a folksinger. It has taken Tracy awhile to get back to her dream, but she's living the dream now and loving it. Her current band, The Reinforcements, is made up of Gene Lippmann, Rebecca Leigh, John Cartwright, John O'Kennedy and Doug Knoll. I first heard Tracy and her band at the FAR West Folk Alliance Convention in Irvine, California, in 2009, and their CD called "A Place in the Sun" has become one of my favorites. Tracy Newman and the Reinforcements have built a strong reputation in the L.A. area where they play out frequently, and they are just beginning to tour the western states. Their music is essentially acoustic folk, and they do a funny, moving, and memorable show. Tracy Newman and the Reinforcements will perform at Abounding Grace Sanctuary, 2450 S. Kolb, just north of Golf Links on the west side of Kolb, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Advance tickets are available for $15 online at Brown Paper Tickets. Admission at the door is $20 cash.
