*Josh Swiller is the author of the Unheard: A Memoir of Deafness and Africa, a New York Times bestseller and is a dedicated advocate for the deaf and disabled. Mr. Swiller was born with moderate hearing loss and was legally deaf by age four. Since graduating from Yale University, he's had a wide variety of careers, including: college professor, Peace Corps volunteer, forest ranger, sheepskin slipper craftsman, raw food chef and hospice worker. Currently, he is a writer and Zen monk in Ithaca, New York. Mr. Swiller’s journalism has appeared in numerous national publications such as The New York Times and The Washington Post, and has won several awards including 2011 Magazine Feature of the Year from the Washington, DC, Society of Professional Journalists. He also writes for ABC Family’s “Switched at Birth,” the first show on television with multiple deaf characters.
