LAVA Music presents Jonathan McEuen and Nathan McEuen in Concert
Two sons of well-known rock star banjo player, John McEuen, Nathan McEuen and Jonathan McEuen were born to sing and play. This night they will join together to perform a very special show in Tucson's Abounding Grace Sanctuary. Good genes and a star-studded extended musical family have definitely worked to Jonathan McEuen's advantage. Crowds respond enthusiastically to his extraordinary voice and guitar playing whenever he performs. Jonathan has always known life on the road - first by playing guitar and singing with his family, as well as singing background and playing guitar for other world class artists including Dwight Yoakam, Dave Mason, and Robben Ford, to name a few. Co-fronting his own band with cousin Jamie Hanna (son of Jeff Hanna from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band), he was signed to the major record label MCA Nashville, (a division of Universal Music Group). That experience confirmed he was ready to move forward and create music outside the confines of his influences or a specific genre. Jonathan has performed on Jay Leno, at the Grand Ol’ Opry, and at Red Rocks in Colorado. Though Jonathan’s tremendous skill on guitar is clear, playing music without limitations is his commitment. He enjoys crossing genre lines and breaking molds by fusing musical traditions in his own, inspired way. Armed with a quick wit and personal charm, Jonathan moves fluidly in and out of folk, rock and bluegrass/country influences, making delightfully eclectic music for everyone along for the ride. Nathan McEuen has become a favorite at Abounding Grace Sanctuary, first performing there in March of 2010 with the String Figures. He returned to play with mandolin prodigy, Scott Gates, and Chuck Hailes, and in November of 2011 with Matt Cartsonis, Kevin Schramm, and Tom Rhodes. Nathan always goes all out to put on a highly entertaining show, and his audiences have grown exponentially since his first appearance in Tucson. Nathan and Jonathan have been performing together frequently in California, and this will be their first performance together in Tucson. In addition to growing up in the bluegrass and folk rock scene around his Grammy Award winning father, Nathan had mentors like Johhny Cash, Vassar Clements, Steve Martin, and Dolly Parton, and experiences opening for and working with Dave Crosby and Graham Nash, Kenny Loggins, John Denver, Chris Hillman, Willie Nelson, Dave Mason, and many more. But Nathan has blazed his own trail, often being compared to the likes of Nickel Creek, Jack Johnson, and the David Grisman Quintet. Pulling from all of his past experiences, Nathan has an ability to write original songs and craft his vocals around tunes both old and new, making him sound familiar yet unique. Jonathan McEuen and Nathan McEuen will perform at Abounding Grace Sanctuary, 2450 S. Kolb, just north of Golf Links on the west side of Kolb, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Advance tickets are $15 online, all fees included. If not sold out, tickets are $20 cash at the door. Doors open at 6:30. Details including videos are available at www.lavamusic.org.
