PHOENIX (AP) - A Tuba City couple has been indicted on child abuse and assault charges.
Prosecutors say a federal grand jury in Phoenix returned a 14-count indictment Tuesday against 35-year-old Royce Paul Paddock and 36-year-old Anna Laura Paddock.
The indictment alleges the Paddocks were guardians of a 5-year-old girl who was physically assaulted over the past year. Authorities say the victim had surgery to repair a broken leg and a fractured elbow and suffered two pelvic fractures as well as a rib fracture.
Royce Paddock is in federal custody after being indicted on eight counts of assault resulting in serious bodily injury and six counts of intentional or knowing child abuse. Anna Paddock is charged with six counts of intentional or knowing child abuse. It was not clear Wednesday whether the Paddocks had hired lawyers.
