On Thursday the Pima Association of Governments approved to expand the current 800 miles of bikeways by an additional 700 miles.

The plan will address what actions the region's jurisdictions will take in the 20-year period to address existing and evolving needs in the bicycle system.

Goals for the plan include: education, engineering, enforcement and encouragement.

Data used in the decision-making for the plan comes from the PAG annual report and analysis, information which helps achieve goals of making the region even more bicycle friendly.

Funding will come from multiple sources at the federal, state, and local levels.

A 2006 sales tax of half a cent included substantial levels of funding for bicycle projects as well as vital roadway and transit improvements.
