A nonprofit that advocates quality public education released the 2009 anti-education voting records of 40 Arizona legislators Wednesday. News conferences were held in Phoenix and Tucson. The nonprofit provided this media release Wednesday afternoon:
"The legislative voting record compiled by the Arizona Education Network identifies the 40 legislators who voted against public education funding 100 percent of the time.
"Many of Arizona's 90 legislators like to say they support public education," said MaryLee Moulton of the Arizona Education Network. "But these records show that almost half of them do not."
"These unprecedented education cuts are crippling our schools, threatening our state's economic future and damaging our children,"said Jen Darland of the Arizona Education Network. "The wheels are coming off the bus and it's important for Arizona voters to know who is unscrewing the lugnuts."
The Arizona Education Network is a non-partisan, independent non-profit created by Arizona parents in 2009. It has thousands of members statewide who support public education.
AEN provides analyses of education issues and up-to-date news about education issues on its web site: http://www.arizonaeducationnetwork.com <http://www.arizonaeducationnetwork.com/> It also emails a weekly legislative newsletter to thousands of members.
The organization is working to educate parents and other education supporters about the importance of getting informed, getting engaged and voting for pro-education candidates.
