AJO, Ariz. (Border Patrol) – After several hours of tracking operations in the west desert area Monday, U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Ajo station located more than 1,000 pounds of abandoned marijuana with an estimated value exceeding $850,000.
Border Patrol agents located the footprints of a group of people along the international boundary who apparently entered the country illegally.
Agents tracked the group for several hours and eventually came upon multiple backpacks of marijuana.
Agents then conducted a thorough search of the immediate area for individuals associated with the backpacks but all members of the group had absconded.
The marijuana was taken to the Ajo Station for processing.
