TUCSON (AP) - Sen. John McCain has brought one of the Republican Party's rising stars to southern Arizona.
Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown joined McCain at a campaign rally, fundraiser and the University of Arizona basketball game in Tucson on Saturday.
The two senators held a campaign rally in Phoenix on Friday.
Brown won his seat in January in a special election. He replaced the late Edward M. Kennedy, A Democrat. His election gives Republicans the crucial 41st vote needed to defeat Democratic legislation in the Senate.
McCain faces a primary challenge from former Phoenix-area congressman and talk-radio host JD Hayworth. Hayworth says McCain is too moderate for Arizona Republicans. The four-term Arizona senator says he's had a consistently conservative voting record.
KGUN's Linda Garrett will have more on McCain and Brown's day in Tucson on KGUN9-TV at 10 p.m. Saturday.
