Two dogs were rescued from a house fire on the Northwest Side Saturday, according to Capt. Adam Goldberg, spokesman for the Northwest Fire District.
The fire began in a home at Orange Grove and Shannon roads Saturday afternoon.
The family of four who live there was not at home, but two dogs were inside.
Goldberg said the fire department received dozens of 911 calls from concerned neighbors, but none could pinpoint the exact location of the origin of the smoke. It took firefighters several minutes to locate the house. Fire fighters were able to locate the dogs and rescue them.
Fire investigators are looking at whether a faulty furnace may be to blame. Damage to the home is estimated at around $40 thousand dollars.
The family was displaced by the fire. A Red Cross spokesperson said the family, which includes two teenage children, is being offered lodging for up to a week, food, clothing and some medical supplies.
