AJO, Ariz. (AP) - U.S. Border Patrol agents say they have seized more than 500 pounds of marijuana left by suspected drug smugglers near the Arizona border.
Agents assigned to the Ajo station detected a group of individuals walking near Lukeville on Wednesday night and carrying large backpacks. When agents arrived at the scene, the suspected smugglers had fled but left behind 29 bundles of marijuana concealed within makeshift backpacks.
Authorities say the 528 pounds of marijuana has an estimated value of about $422,000.
