PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say an Arizona Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol Officer has been seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle on I-17 near Munds Park.
Department of Public Safety duty officer Andrew Dobbins says the accident occurred early Sunday morning as the officer was assisting with a collision along the northbound lane.
He says road conditions were icy and several vehicles became involved in a multi-vehicle pileup.
He says other drivers were also hurt but believes the officer had the most serious injuries.
The officer, who wasn't identified, was rushed to a hospital in Flagstaff, about 20 miles north.
Details on the officer's condition, the vehicle that hit the officer, and the number of other vehicles involved were not immediately available.
